Description

East of the Römerstadt, between the Nidda and the fan-like, widened structure of the housing estate, is the Heddernheim allotment garden colony. The gardens laid out there in 1927/28 were primarily created for the residents of the apartment blocks who did not have their own home garden. The fact that, in addition to light, air and sun, green space was an important foundation for life in the Neues Frankfurt is illustrated in the model garden in plot 16 on 270 m² of planted area and by means of a preserved allotment shed (architect: Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky). The garden is reconstructed to the condition of the 1920s by the ernst-may-gesellschaft. The plants cultivated in this plot – almost exclusively old varieties – follow the historical model in terms of division and planting sequence.
